Travel Information
Travel documents
This
table shows the travel document and visa requirements for entering
Austria, and contains links to lists of Austrian embassies and
consulates in various countries. Note that the requirements can
change, so you may want to check with your travel agency or the
Austrian consulate in your country for current requirements.
Currency
The Euro (EUR) is the Austrian currency.
Weather
Weather in Vienna in September is usually dry (mean precipitation in
September: 42mm) and sunny, with a mean daily maximum temparature of
20 degrees C. However, we might be out of luck and get rain and
temperatures of 10 degrees C, or a heat wave and 30 degrees C.
Arriving in Vienna
- From the Airport
- You can take a taxi (about EUR 28), or go by public transport:
Take the direct
Bus (EUR 5.80) to the City Air Terminal; then use the U4 subway
(Fares),
direction Hütteldorf for two stops until stop "Karlsplatz", in walking
distance of the hotels. You can also take a taxi from City Air
Terminal (shoul cost less than EUR 10).
- From the railway station "Westbahnhof"
- A taxi ride should cost
less than EUR 10. Or use subway U3 (Fares),
direction Simmering, for three stops until stop "Volkstheater", then
change to U2 direction Karlsplatz for two stops until stop
"Karlsplatz", in walking distance of the hotels. You could also get
off the train earlier in Hütteldorf, and take the subway U4 to
"Karlsplatz" (11 stops).
- From the railway station "Südbahnhof"
- A taxi ride should cost
less than EUR 10. Or take the tramway 18 (Fares)
direction Burggasse for one stop to "Südtiroler Platz" (or
you can leave the railway station in that direction), then switch to subway U1
direction Kagran and use it for one or two stops to the stops
"Taubstummengasse" or "Karlsplatz", in walking distance of the Hotels.
Getting around in Vienna
Vienna has a good public transport system, so you do not need taxis or
a car to get around in Vienna. The conference site and hotels are
near one of the central hubs of the Vienna public transport system,
the station "Karlsplatz", where three subways and a number of tramway
and bus lines meet.
Sightseeing
The City of Vienna with it's sights and cultural institutions (St. Stephen's
Cathedral, Imperial
Palace, the City Hall,
the National
Library, the Museum of Fine
Arts, the Secession,
Staatsoper, Burgtheater, Volkstheater etc.) is within
walking distance of the conference site and hotels, and also some
other sights (e.g., the Austrian
Gallery at the Upper
Belvedere).
Other sights are easily reachable by public transport: E.g., Schönbrunn Palace (6
stops with subway U4 direction Hütteldorf from stop "Karlsplatz" to
stop "Schönbrunn"), the Giant Ferris
Wheel (4 stops with subway U1 direction Kagran from stop
"Karlsplatz" to stop "Praterstern").
